A vasectomy is a minor urological surgical procedure involving the vas deferens — the tubes that carry sperm from the testes. Performed by a fellowship-trained specialist urologist, it is one of the most refined minimally invasive procedures in urology, undertaken in our dedicated specialist clinic rather than in a hospital operating theatre.
A/Prof Zargar uses the no-scalpel technique, a modern approach in which the vas deferens is accessed through a small puncture rather than a traditional incision. The area is fully numbed with local anaesthetic, so patients remain awake and comfortable throughout. There is no need for sedation, fasting, or hospital admission.
The procedure itself typically takes approximately 20 minutes. Because there is no scalpel incision and no stitches are usually required, recovery is faster and the risk of bleeding, bruising and infection is lower than with older techniques. Most patients walk out of the clinic shortly after the procedure and return to desk-based work within a few days.

Mild discomfort is expected for 1–2 days. Most patients return to desk work within 2–3 days. Strenuous activity should be avoided for approximately one week.
